As a professional writer, Erica Colvin is immersed in several exciting genres: ballroom dance, hospitality, health and fitness, home and garden, and etiquette. Colvin’s passion for writing and editing stems from her inquisitive personality and vigorous work ethic.
Years before her graduation from Brigham Young University-Idaho, Colvin sought opportunities to enhance her writing and editing skills. Her vibrant background in dance propelled her to the Los Angeles area in 2007 where she taught at the prestigious Arthur Murray International Dance Studios. After meeting and working with several editors and writers in the area, Colvin knew her destiny was set. She began writing freelance for the outdoor fitness company MOV Fitness. Her success in the fitness industry soon spilled into other areas.
After returning to Idaho, she jumped on board the staff of American Dancer magazine: the official publication of USA Dance. Within the first six months, she moved from a staff writer position to managing editor. Throughout the next two years, Colvin traveled the country interviewing world-class ballroom professionals and producing quality issues of American Dancer magazine.
Her start in the magazine industry soon led Colvin to pursue a different field in journalism. In 2009, Colvin entered the newsroom at Brigham Young University-Idaho’s University Relations. As lead student editor, Colvin supervised the news staff of four writers. Her experience contributed to the university’s bi-yearly Alumni magazine, weekly employee newsletter, regular press releases, and a kaleidoscope of editing and writing projects.
As Colvin’s interests grew, she found her way as a freelance writer adding the T Cross Ranch (an elite guest ranch in Wyoming) and the Tyler Area Builder’s Association (Parade of Homes magazine) to her projects.
After graduation, she moved to Logan, Utah, where she started FreeStyle Dance Company. Her minor in dance plus her strong career in writing facilitated this bold new endeavor. Today, Colvin is found working in the community bringing dance to all ages. She also enjoys researching a wide variety of topics to supplement her professional blogs and freelance projects.
